Server rules
These rules are principles, not a checklist. Staff judge whether you went against a principle's purpose, not whether you found a gap in its wording. What happens next is fixed: every principle has a tier, and every tier has a set punishment ladder.

- Minimum age13+16 or older recommended
- English spokenENFor players in the UK, Europe and the US
- New life rule5 minUnless a Gamemaster says otherwise
- Not sure?AskAsking staff first is never punished
- Every punishment names the principle broken and the step of the ladder.
- Staff can move one step up or down for a recorded reason, and nothing more.
- Old offences stop counting after a set time.
- You can always appeal, and staff follow the same rules.
The principles
Treat everyone with respect
Rivalries between characters are fine. Targeting the real person behind them is not.
Not allowed
- Harassing, bullying or repeatedly targeting a player
- Slurs or discrimination of any kind
- Offensive names, avatars or sprays
- Encouraging self-harm or making real-world threats
Fine
- In-character insults between rival characters
- Banter between players who are both in on it
Applies in game, on the Discord and on the Steam group. Slurs, hate speech and real threats are severe.
Roleplay comes first
Play your character as a real person in a military setting would.
Not allowed
- Acting in ways no real soldier would, just for fun (FailRP)
- Out-of-character chat or knowledge used in character
- Ignoring the duties of your role, or taking a role you were not given
- Going AFK in a post, vehicle or role others rely on
Fine
- A short out-of-character message to sort out a problem
- Spying, infiltration and scams done in character
In-character scams are allowed, so be careful who you trade with or buy from the official NPCs.
Value your life
When held at gunpoint, outnumbered or outmatched, act like you want to live.
Not allowed
- Pulling a weapon or running while clearly held at gunpoint
- Charging hopeless fights alone just for a kill
Fine
- A calculated risk your character believes could work
- Fighting back when you have a real chance
Only fight who you are at war with
Enemy forces are fair game by any legitimate means. Civilians and your own side are not.
Not allowed
- Killing or attacking civilians, apart from genuine accidents
- Killing your own side (team killing)
- Killing anyone with no in-character reason (RDM), or many people at once (mass RDM)
Fine
- Fighting enemies with gunfire, explosives, vehicles or anything else legitimate
- Defending yourself or your unit
- Civilians facing in-character consequences for crimes they commit
Mass RDM, or RDM aimed at new players, is serious.
Death means something
After you die, forget how it happened and stay away from it for 5 minutes.
Not allowed
- Going back to where you died while the situation is still going on (NLR)
- Using what you knew before you died, such as who killed you
Fine
- Carrying on with your duties somewhere else
- Event deaths when the Gamemaster has changed the rule
Play fair
Win through the game and the roleplay, never around them.
Not allowed
- Cheats, scripts or macros
- Using bugs, glitches or map exploits
- Metagaming, or watching streams to find players (stream sniping)
- Disconnecting, going AFK or switching job to escape a fight, an arrest or a punishment
- Trading in-game money, items or accounts for real money or real items
Fine
- Streaming or recording your own gameplay
- Reporting a bug you found, which is never punished
Exploiting for an advantage and real-money trading are serious. Cheats are severe.
Respect the chain of command
Follow lawful orders in character, and use any rank you hold fairly.
Not allowed
- Ignoring or trolling orders out of character
- Abusing a rank to punish or kill players without reason
- Pretending to hold a rank or role you do not have
- Arresting or jailing players when you are not military police, or without a reason when you are
Fine
- Disagreeing with an order and roleplaying the consequences
- A planned mutiny that is part of the story
Repeatedly abusing a rank you hold is moderate.
Use equipment as intended
Tools, vehicles and property are for roleplay, not griefing.
Not allowed
- Using the physics gun or tool gun on other players or their things
- Blocking paths, spawns or players with vehicles or doors you own
- Spawn camping
- Starting fires or setting off fireworks to grief
- Interfering with event builds
Fine
- Setting up defences for a planned operation
- Accidents you put right where you can
Only staff and Gamemasters can spawn props, so there are no prop rules for players.
Keep communications clear
Let others be heard, and speak English so everyone can follow.
Not allowed
- Mic spam, loud noises or soundboards
- Music through your mic or a radio that others have not agreed to
- Explicit or offensive audio
- Flooding chat, or advertising other servers
Fine
- Raised voices in an intense roleplay moment
- A quick word in another language with a friend
Advertising other servers is moderate.
Be honest with staff
Staff can only be fair if they have the truth.
Not allowed
- Lying to staff or faking evidence
- Leaving to avoid a sit or a punishment
- False reports to get someone punished
- Pretending to be staff
Fine
- Disagreeing and appealing the decision
- Asking for a different staff member, with a reason
Keep the community safe
Some things are never acceptable, in character or not.
Not allowed
- Sharing anyone's personal information (doxxing)
- Sexual or explicit content of any kind
- Phishing, or trying to get into anyone's accounts
- Anything illegal
One person, one account
Your record follows your account, and you are responsible for everything done on it.
Not allowed
- Using another account while banned or punished
- Sharing your account
- Playing on several accounts at once
Fine
- Owning a second account that you tell staff about and never use to get around the rules
Using another account to evade a ban is severe.
Follow the spirit of the rules
If you have to look for a loophole, you already know the answer.
Not allowed
- Using technicalities to excuse something that clearly goes against a principle
Fine
- Asking staff whether something is allowed before you do it
Punished in the tier of the principle you tried to get around.
Punishments
Your punishment depends on the principle's tier and how many offences in that tier still count against you.

Each offence counts forever
How offences count
- Each tier keeps its own count.
- The clock starts when the punishment ends, so time spent banned never counts.
- A new offence restarts the clock for that tier.
- A week with no punishment at all clears every minor and moderate offence.
- Punishments overturned on appeal are removed completely.
Staff judgement
- Several principles broken at once
- Targeting new or uninvolved players
- Carrying on after a warning
- During an event
- Owning up straight away
- Genuinely new to the server
- Putting things right yourself
- A long clean record
- One step at most, and never into another tier.
- Only senior staff can treat the worst cases one tier higher.
- Staff should not handle situations they are involved in.
Good to know
In-character crimes
- Crimes committed in character are handled in character by the military police, who arrest and jail players.
- If something goes beyond roleplay, the military police are expected to call staff.
Events
- Gamemasters can add or relax rules for their event, such as lives or the new life rule.
- They announce changes at the start, and the changes end with the event.
Age and maturity
- You must be 13 or older to play, and we recommend 16 or older.
- Staff can decide a player isn't a good fit for the community if they lack the maturity it needs.
Reporting a player
- Report players on this website at milrp.co/report, as soon as you can.
- Say who, what and when, add clips if you have them, and don't call people out in chat.
Several principles at once
- One incident gets one punishment, under the most serious principle.
- The others can move it one step up the ladder.
Staff follow the rules too
- Staff are held to every principle here.
- Abusing staff powers is serious and means removal from the team.
Think a punishment was wrong? You can appeal it.
